British Columbia Tech Pilot Extended Until June 2019

British Colombia’s Tech Pilot is aiming to enrich the tech sector. It is designed to attract foreign talents through the British Colombia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) weekly draws. The Tech Pilot was introduced in August 2017 with 32 in-demand occupations.

The Tech Pilot will be extended until June 2019 following the update issued in June 2018. The modifications reflects  a drop of in-demand occupations to 29 and an adjustment to the job duration  which changed from a permanent full- time offer to at least one year full-time offer. This new time limit will help employers plan for their staffing future needs.

The main reason behind these changes was the feedback from tech sector companies for the removal of in-demand occupations, and employers who mostly award job offers on a project-to-project basis for a specific duration of time such as in the animation and digital effects sectors.
